Introduction: You’re Not Alone, Sis

So, you want to study the Bible, but you're not sure where to start? Maybe you’ve tried before but felt overwhelmed, confused, or unsure if you were “doing it right.” Let me tell you—you are not alone. Many Christian women (especially new believers and those craving spiritual depth) feel the same way. But here’s the good news: you don’t have to have it all together to start growing in God’s Word.

In this post, I’ll walk you through some simple steps to begin your Bible study journey with confidence. Whether you’re brand new to the faith or just ready to go deeper, this beginner’s guide will help you take that next step.

And if you want a done-for-you Bible study plan that walks with you daily and takes the guesswork out of studying Scripture, be sure to check out my 60-Day Gospel of John Study using the F.I.R.E. Method.

Why Studying The Bible Matters

Reading the Bible isn’t just a good Christian habit, it’s how we:

  • Hear God’s voice

  • Grow in faith

  • Learn to live surrendered to His will

  • Gain confidence in our calling

Scripture transforms us from the inside out. And the best part? You don’t need to be a theologian or go to seminary to study it meaningfully. You just need the right tools and a heart that’s willing.

2. Shift From Duty to Delight

When Bible study becomes another item on your to-do list, it can start to feel lifeless. But what if we stopped approaching it as an obligation—and started treating it as a conversation with the One who loves us?

Try this:

  • Before opening your Bible, ask: “Lord, what do You want to show me today?”

  • Don’t chase checklists. Chase intimacy.

  • Choose passages that speak to your season (Psalms, John, Isaiah).

If you need help knowing where to begin, my From Study to Surrender 60-Day Study gently guides you through the Gospel of John—one chapter at a time—so you can rediscover the beauty of Scripture with purpose and depth.

Step 1. Start With the Right Mindset

Don’t come to the Bible feeling like you have to master it all at once. You’re not studying for a test—you’re building a relationship with its Author. Come expectant, not perfect.

Try starting your time with a simple prayer like:

"God, help me understand Your Word and see what You want to teach me today."

Step 2. Choose the Right Place to Begin

If you’re new to Scripture, a great place to start is the Gospel of John. It’s easy to follow, rich in meaning, and gives a beautiful picture of who Jesus is.

This is exactly why my 60-Day Study Guide starts there! It walks you through the Gospel of John with structure and support, perfect for beginners.

Step 3. Use a Simple Method that Works

One of the biggest reasons women get overwhelmed is that they don’t have a method for studying the Bible. That’s why I created the F.I.R.E. Method:

  • Focus – Choose a passage and read it slowly

  • Investigate – Ask questions and dig into context

  • Reflect – What is God saying to you personally?

  • Engage – Apply the Word to your life and respond

It’s simple, powerful, and has helped so many women gain confidence in their personal study.

Step 4. Use a Simple Method that Works

You don’t have to study for hours. Start with 15-20 minutes a day. Consistency is more important than quantity. The goal is to develop a habit of meeting with God through His Word.

Tip: Create a cozy space with your Bible, a journal, and maybe a cup of coffee or tea. Make it something you look forward t

Step 5. Invite the Holy Spirit Into Your Study Time

Bible study isn’t just about head knowledge—it’s about heart transformation. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes and guide your understanding. He’s the best teacher you could ask for.

You Can Do This

The Bible isn’t just for pastors, scholars, or the “super spiritual.” It’s for you. Right where you are.
